Karen Meador, Development Activities Coordinator
Long active in the heritage community, Development and Activities Coordinator Karen Meador has been involved in a number of community organizations. She has served on
several non-profit boards, including AKCHO, and was a member of the Citizen's Advisory Committee for the King County Historic Preservation Program Strategic Plan.
Her articles on local history and other topics have appeared in numerous venues, including Columbia: The Magazine of Northwest History. While doing research
at HSFW, she discovered a vast resource of archival material on the history of Federal Way's first highway, Military Road, part of the historic Fort Steilacoom to Fort
Bellingham Road. Having lived in several states before arriving in the Pacific Northwest, she had come to appreciate America's vast road
system and its history – particularly when driving non-stop across Texas!
She has lectured throughout the Pacific Northwest on Military Road and other topics and was the recipient of the 2015 AKCHO Long-Term Project Award for her brochure,
Military Road: A Lasting Legacy.
Karen greatly appreciates Federal Way's unique blend of heritage and great scenic beauty, with its urban oases within walking distance of major highways, and looks
forward to working with the Historical Society and members of the Greater Federal Way Community.
